Slovenian Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has decided to financially support the project of setting up the Natura 2000 Information Centre in the Karst. The European Regional Development Fund will contribute 688,000 euros for the project implementation worth 873,000 euros, they said. 
The Natura 2000 information centre in the Karst will be arranged in the castle of Štanjel, showing the use of the Karst throughout history (including archaeology, sites, ethnology). Changes in the Karst overgrowth through the history of human settlement and the impact of human activity on biodiversity will be interpreted.
In addition, the centre will have an educational part with an invitation to go to the nature, highlighting the importance of habitat conservation and the role of farming in the Karst. The project will thus make an important contribution to the popularization of cultural heritage and nature in the castle of Štanjel.
The contents in Štanjel will be supplemented and upgraded by the centre, which will be arranged by the Škocjan Caves Park at the other side of the Karst. Together, they will represent a whole that will present Karst in a comprehensive and multifaceted manner.
The project for the castle in Štanjel restoration, managed by the Municipality of Komen, is complementary to the “Ensuring appropriate use of Karst grasslands and habitats for the conservation of selected habitat types and species in the Natura 2000 – Karst area” project, which is under the care of the Škocjan Caves Public Institute.
