Europeans should not remain observers in any new arms race

European countries must not remain observers in any new nuclear arms race the venue of which could be Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed today. Speaking on France’s post-Brexit nuclear strategy, he urged them to work towards the international arms control.

Macron further said that France has already reduced its nuclear warheads to below 300, which may justifiably require other nuclear forces to take concrete steps for a gradual, credible and verifiable nuclear disarmament in the world.

French President also urged European countries to take part in any future negotiations on nuclear weapons and to sign a possible future treaty. As he explained, nuclear weapons also threaten the territory of Europe.
