“GO! Borderless” Visit by the two European Commissioners

February 8 and 9th Nova Gorica

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and European Commissioner for Intergenerational Justice, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef will visit Slovenia on February 8 and 9.

On the morning of February 8 in Nova Gorica, Commissioner Kos will host her first dialogue with young people about the expansion of EU policy, entitled “Removing obstacles – bridging borders – growing together”. Commissioner Micallef will also take part in the dialogue.

The conversation between Commissioner Kos and Commissioner Micaleff with young people will take place on the day of the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture, which this year will be held under the slogan “GO! Borderless” was jointly carried by Slovenian Nova Gorica and Italian Gorizia.

Commissioner Kos and Commissioner Micallef, who are responsible for the European Capitals of Culture initiative in the European Commission, together with the Ministry of Culture Asta Vrečko will make public statements in the  ECC media center at 1:00 p.m. on February 8th .

Commissioner Kos and Commissioner Micallef will address the participants of the Opening ceremony at the opening of the European Capital of Culture at 16:00 at Trg Evrope in front of the Nova Gorica railway station. Commissioner Micallef will present the organizer with the Melina Mercouri Award, which is awarded by the European Commission to cities with the ECC title.

At 6 p.m., Commissioner Kos and Commissioner Micallef will then take part in an artistic event at the opening of the EPK at Trg Edvarda Kardelja in Nova Gorica.

Commissioner Kos and Commissioner Micallef will continue their visit to Slovenia on February 9, when they will attend a meeting of the Ministers of Culture of the Western Balkan countries in Villa Vipolže. The meeting is hosted by the Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko.

Dialogues with young people about the EU’s enlargement policy

The first of the dialogues with young people about the EU’s enlargement policy, which will be hosted by Commissioner Kos, have begun on February 7, when young people walked along the Path of Peace and, as part of visits to museums, learned about the history of the border region and efforts for reconciliation and integration between people on both sides of the border.

The dialogue is attended by 40 young people between the ages of 18 and 30 from the European Union, candidates for EU membership, and from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kosovo and Belarus. Young people will talk with Commissioner Kos and Commissioner Micallef about the most pressing issues facing the EU, and will give them their suggestions and wishes regarding European policies.
