Spouses of ambassadors accredited in Slovenia visited Strmol Castle on the 22nd of October 2024 and the spouse of the President of the Republic Dr. Aleš Musar, attended this meeting.
During this fourth meeting, the spouses of ambassadors had the opportunity to learn about Strmol’s history, from its beginnings to the period of Rad and Ksenija Hribar and about the protocol role of this extraordinary monument in the post-war period.
After the tour, the guests went to Adergas, where pastor Slavko Kalan welcomed them in the parish church of the former Velesovo monastery.
Damjana Pečnik from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia took the distinguished foreign guest on a tour of this hidden gem of Slovenian cultural heritage.
The highlight of the evening was the exclusive meet-up with the writer Drago Jančar and the talk about his time-transcending novel Saw Her That Night which is set in the Strmol castle – the environment that the guests visited during the day.
All invited ambassador’s spouses already received a copy of the book two weeks before the event, each in their native language. This interesting initiative was made possible by the Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Ministry was, this time, also the co-host of the event. The representative by the Ministry was the new Acting Secretary General, Ambassador Barbara Žvokelj.
