The new EU budget negotiation proposal for 2021-2027 presented by European Council President Charles Michel is still inadequate for Slovenia, Foreign Minister Miro Cerar said in Brussels this Monday. There are slight improvements in cohesion policy compared to the previous proposals, but that is not enough, Foreign Minister believes.
He also listed Slovenia’s priorities: maintaining cohesion funds at the appropriate level, appropriate solution for more developed of the two Slovenian regions – Western Slovenia, and increasing, not reducing the funds for rural areas.
Cerar also said that the main negotiator is Marjan Šarec, the PM who has been running only current affairs. State Secretary for foreign affairs Matej Marn, however, is the one presenting Slovenia’s views in the working meeting after the presentation of Michel’s compromise proposal.
