This is what Andreja Leški wrote on her Facebook page after winning the Paris gold:

“I’ve been dreaming about this for a long time… or am I still dreaming? No, this is the result, it’s real. Earned with steel will and love for this sport. Of course, a lot of work went into it! How many times I cried and broke down right in the middle of training just in the last 3 months… but the passion and joy that judo brought me was more important to me. And that’s exactly what I showed on the mat on my victorious Olympic day. Pleasure, calmness, soft path… the biggest proof that it is necessary to take life challenges lightly and even in difficult times, find and share as much positive energy as possible! To be human! Thank you to everyone who was and is able to see in me not only the perfect athlete but also simply the person I am. Thank you all for the wonderful thoughts these days, all the support over the past years, and cooperation in the circumstances that have been given to us!

“OLYMPIC SILVER MEDAL!!

For me, a symbol of hard work, dedication, belief and hope that I will once live this moment. It still feels surreal after a week we have been through. The ups and some downs that result in this shinny thing I get to hold on for the rest of my life. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to my coaches, family, Nika, sponsors and the rest who made this possible. We, as a team, will work to be even better in the future. It’s a promise, Slovenia”
