Public transportation services suspended as of midnight

The government is temporarily suspending public transportation services in Slovenia to contain the spreading of the new coronavirus. The measure is coming into effect at midnight. Taxis will still be able to operate, but the drivers will have to sanitize their vehicles before a new passenger enters.

Pursuant to the decree, the public transport of passengers on regular lines, special transport of passengers on regular lines, regular passenger transport on external lines, occasional passenger transport and public railway passenger transport in domestic and international traffic is suspended on the territory of Slovenia, the government said.

Taxi transportation will continue to be allowed if the taxi driver arranges for proper disinfection of parts of the vehicle in contact with the passenger before a new passenger enters the vehicle.

Exempted from the suspension is transportation used by intervention services and other urgent services of the public sector. In such cases, the organiser and provider of transportation will have to ensure a proper protection of drivers and passengers as well as sanitation of the vehicles. All other exceptions in all cases need to be approved by the infrastructure minister.

The government decree also suspends transportation in gondola lifts, funiculars and cabin ski lifts as of Monday. These may only be used in cases of emergency care, medical assistance, protection and rescue, and by persons who, prior to the entry into force of this government decision, have carried out transport with the devices referred to in the preceding paragraph and shall return after the entry into force of this decision. These cases, too need to be approved by the infrastructure minister.

The suspension and restrictions shall remain in force until the reasons for them cease, as determined by the government by a decision published in the Official Gazette.
