During October’s catastrophic floods and landslides that affected Bosnia and Herzegovina, more than 5,000 people in the area of the most affected municipalities continue to need humanitarian assistance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the strategic partner for emergency humanitarian response, Slovenska karitas, will allocate 100,000 euros of humanitarian aid for the period of the next month.
Immediately after the floods and landslides, Slovenia sent a team of rescuers with all the necessary equipment to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the European mechanism for civil protection. 27 people also lost their lives in the floods, which damaged more than 1,100 homes and affected more than 5,000 people.
In the most affected municipalities of Jablanica, Konjic, Fojnica, Kiseljak, Kreševo and Vareš, all critical infrastructure was damaged and approximately 500 inhabitants are still without electricity and clean drinking water.
By mid-November, aid in the form of food and hygiene packages will reach at least 250 vulnerable households affected by the floods. For 1,000 people, basic food and hygiene supplies will be provided for one month. Cleaning supplies, dehumidifiers and heaters, as well as firewood for homes heating on wood stoves, will also be distributed. Special emphasis will be placed on helping families with young children, single mothers and female-headed households.
