On March 14th 2024, the new premises of Serbian Academic cultural-artistic society “KOLO” were opened in Koper.

This new place for cultural exchange, music, dance and literature is from now on opened for all who love Serbian tradition and the premises are situated in Cankarjva Street 6 in the centre of Koper.
The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests: Djordje Milićević, Minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations between the Republic of Serbia and the diaspora, Serbian consul in Slovenia Milinko Špica, Mayor of city of Koper Ales Bržan, vice-mayors Mateja Hrvatin Kozlovič and Jasna Softić, Vesna Bajić Stojiljković, KOLO’s artistic director and president of the supervisory board, the president of KOLO society Branko Bajić and many representatives of Serbian diaspora in this part of Slovenia.

Minister Milićević highlighted that „In the new premises of “KOLO”, close to the main folklore hall, there is also a library called “Miroslav Mika Antić”, which will be a “home” to books from Serbia and this will become a place where all interested will be able to get closer to Serbian literary heritage.” Minister added that a special room has been allocated for a workshop for making folk costumes and there is also an interactive classroom where Serbian children from this part of Slovenia will be able to learn their language and their Cyrillic alphabet. “Unique wherever you are!”, concluded minister Milicevic.
Mayor Bržan wished the members of the KOLO society that the new premises inspire them with creativity and connecting energy.
KOLO Society, which has been working in the field of culture and education and preservation of Balkan cultural heritage since 2007 brings together members of all age groups, from children to the elderly. KOLO is most active is the field of folklore, folk singing and instrumental music. The school of Serbian language for children and young people is a special part of KOLO’s activities as well as preserving the tradition of Serbian literature in diaspora.
