This year’s 72nd Ljubljana Festival, which has delighted us throughout the summer with events featuring top-tier musical, dance, and visual artists from around the world is coming to the end of the season.
The last week of the festival promises a series of exceptional events that should not be missed.
On 28 and 29 August, there will be two concerts of the famous London Symphony Orchestra with conductor Sir Antonio Pappano.
On the first evening, the violinist Vilde Frang will perform with them as a soloist, and the audience will be able to hear the works of Edward Elgar and Gustav Mahler.
The second concert will be enriched by the Kaunas State Choir and a young pianist, the winner of the XVIII. Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Bruce Liu, with works by Hector Berlioz, Frédéric Chopin and Gustav Holst.
On 2 September, Italian conductor Riccardo Chailly will return to Ljubljana Festival after eleven years, conducting the Filarmonica della Scala orchestra. A symphony by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and two suites by Maurice Ravel will be played.
After the official closing evening on 3 September, there will be one more concert in Križevniška Church on 4 September with bassoonist Zoran Mitev, who will celebrate 40 years of his musical career with the concert. He will be joined by Ensemble Dissonance and they will perform works by Gordon Jacob, Aldo Kumar, Lars-Erik Larsson, a Macedonian folk song arranged by the founder and director of Ensemble Dissonance Klemen Hvala, a new work by composer Marko Mihevc and two pieces by Astor Piazzolla.
This year’s season will thus end with top concerts, which will once again place Ljubljana among the centers of European cultural events. Don’t miss the chance to be part of these final moments, as the festival bids farewell to another successful season.
