Celebration of the National Day of Belgium in Ljubljana

The Belgian Ambassador to Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia, H. E. Mr Ghislain D’Hoop, hosted a reception in Ljubljana on the occasion of the upcoming National Day of Belgium. During the event in the City Museum, guests from the diplomatic, political, business and culture communities of Slovenia had the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of world-famous Belgian beers and other treats the country is known for.

The National Day of Belgium is celebrated on 21 July each year, to mark the date in 1831, when Belgium gained political independence and regained cultural independence from the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. On 21 July 1831, Leopold of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha swore allegiance to the newly approved Belgian Constitution and became King Leopold I, the first King of the Belgians.
