Slovenia started on September 1st its first presidency of the Security Council of the United Nations in the period 2024-2025.
“We have been preparing for the presidency of this key body for international peace and security for months because as a non-permanent member, we feel even more the responsibility for peace. We live in a divided world, with the most armed fighting since World War II and a record number of people needing humanitarian assistance. That is why it is important to highlight and address the right issues alongside a summit of world leaders. Expectations are high, but we are starting the presidency off with a good voyage. Slovenia is a recognizable, visible, and respected member of Security Council because of her principled views. Our voice is not only heard, but often echoes. We will continue to work connecting and unifying, strengthening timeless values and striving for more consistent adherence to the Constitution & the Security Council decision, including a loud call for respect for international law and human rights. These are our priorities, “ said Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia.
