On October 4, 1901, the Dragon Bridge was opened in Ljubljana, which replaced the wooden bridge from the beginning of the 19th century. The bridge was first named “Emperor Franz Joseph I’s Jubilee Bridge”. The bridge was one of the most beautiful examples of Art Nouveau bridge architecture in Europe. Because of the four dragons, the symbols of Ljubljana, the townspeople soon renamed it the Dragon Bridge.
