Meneghetti Blanc de Blancs from the 2020 vintage has won first place in the sparkling wine category according to the selection of the Croatian Wine Club, as part of the project and Festival 100 Best Wines of Croatia
This prestigious recognition is the result of a multi-stage, completely blind tasting, in which some of Croatia’s most respected sommeliers and wine experts participated. First, 25 renowned connoisseurs of the wine scene nominated wines, and then 10 top sommeliers, unaware of what was in the glass, selected the best sparkling wine in Croatia from several hundred samples. Meneghetti Blanc de Blancs emerged at the very top of the sparkling wine category.
A Sparkling Wine of Terroir, Time, and Clear Vision
Meneghetti Blanc de Blancs (zero dosage) is produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes, sourced from carefully selected vineyards on the Terre Bianche sites in Istria, where pronounced differences between day and night temperatures allow for the preservation of freshness, minerality, and delicate aromatics – key prerequisites for a top-quality sparkling wine.
The first vintage of Meneghetti Blanc de Blancs was in 2019, and the vision was already clear: to produce a sparkling wine whose style, precision, and quality would be on par with the world’s best. From the very beginning, the project was built without compromise, with an emphasis on terroir, time, and the long-term potential of the wine.
This is a zero-dosage sparkling wine, fully revealing the character of the grape variety, soil, and vintage. Extended aging on the lees ensures an exceptionally fine bead, precise structure, and elegance, while the style is defined by freshness, purity, and a long, mineral finish.
“Time is our most precious commodity,” emphasizes Damir Bosek, chief winemaker at Meneghetti, highlighting how patience, precision, and a deep understanding of terroir form the foundation of the quality of their sparkling wines.
The recognition received by Meneghetti Blanc de Blancs further confirms that Istria and Croatia today stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s most respected regions in terms of sparkling wines, with Meneghetti emerging as one of their most important ambassadors.
